The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sacked head coach Chris Hughton from his position as Ghana’s Coach.

It follows the Black Stars’ failure to advance to the 2023 AFCON knockout phase on Monday.

After taking a two-nil lead over Group B rivals Mozambique, the Black Stars looked poised to advance to the round of 16 but wasted their lead, drawing 2-2 with the Mambas in their final Group B match on Monday.

The West African powerhouse were eliminated from the 34th edition of the competition after this result left them with two points from three games and increased their winless record at the biennial competition to six matches over two tournaments.

A few Ghanaian journalists’ protests after the disappointing outcome indicated that changes were unavoidable, beginning with head coach Chris Hughton and his technical staff.

Hughton took over as manager from Otto Addo, who resigned after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where Ghana finished last in Group H with just one victory in three games.

Additionally, the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage of the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon and have already met the same fate at this year’s tournament.
