The driver who is believed to have caused the train accident, Abel Dzidotor, has been sentenced to six months in prison.

In response to three of the four charges brought against him, Dzidotor reportedly acknowledged guilt, according to Benjamin Aklama of Citi News.

Among these offenses are careless driving and causing damage without authorization.

The initial accusation concerned irresponsible and thoughtless driving, which contravened Section 3 of RTA Act 683 (2004), as modified by Act 761 of 2008. After entering a guilty plea, Dzidotor was sentenced to 100 penalty units, which, if unpaid, could result in a 20-month jail sentence.

The second charge concerned stopping without permission, which was against Section 19 of Act 683 of 2004 as revised by Act 761 of 2008. After admitting guilt, Dzidotor was given a sentence of 20 penalty units, or five months in jail if the fine wasn’t paid.

The third charge pertained to causing unlawful damage, in violation of Act 2960’s section 172b. Dzidotor was sentenced to six months of hard labor after entering a guilty plea.

The fourth charge pertained to the failure to present a driver’s license, in violation of LI 21(80) regulation 47(2). Dzidotor entered a not-guilty plea, claiming that his license was inside the broken car.

He has been warned that failure to turn in the license to the court by May 9, 2024, could have serious repercussions.

The driver of the Hyundai truck with the license plate GS 9018-20 was detained by the Ghana Police Service on Thursday after it was claimed that the driver was the cause of the accident involving the recently imported train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.

During a test run, the recently imported train from Poland got into an accident.

The police said in a statement that the results of their preliminary investigation showed that the suspect driver had left the vehicle unattended on the railroad track, which had caused it to collide with the train.

The driver of the truck reportedly couldn’t use a pass-through under the bridge and was on his way to deliver cement blocks when the truck became stuck on the rail.
