In the wake of John Kumah’s passing on March 7, 2024, the Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled a by-election for April 30, 2024, in Ejisu.

Following a brief illness, the 45-year-old MP passed away, leaving a wife and six children in his wake.

On Saturday, April 6, 2024, the vetting committee cleared all nine candidates who wanted to run in the constituency’s Parliamentary primary for the New Patriotic Party.

On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the NPP began accepting nominations; by the time it closed on Thursday, April 4, all nine had submitted.

On Saturday, April 13, 2024, NPP is anticipated to elect a parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

The by-election has not yet elicited interest from any other political party.

It has been stated by the NDC that it is still debating whether or not to run in the by-election.
