Ghana is one of the top ten best-governed countries in Africa, according to the 2023 World Economics Governance Index report. It ranks fifth, behind South Africa, Namibia, Mauritius, and Botswana.

Ghana overtook nations like Nigeria, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Lesotho, and Togo.

Ghana is frequently praised as a bright example of democracy in the Sub-Saharan region. Ghana has been celebrating more than three decades of democracy under the Fourth Republic.

The nation’s governance has improved significantly, according to the World Economics Governance Index, despite the fact that it has faced several obstacles recently that have affected its standing internationally.

Ghana was ranked as the best-governed nation in West Africa by the report’s grading system, which was based on a number of indices, including Rule of Law, Press Freedom, Political Rights, and Corruption.

The report highlights the need for substantial advancements in the implementation of the rule of law, a more potent plan to counteract corruption, which has damaged every government since it was first introduced, and—above all—the requirement that media practitioners and journalists be provided with a secure workplace free from intimidation or fear.
