Agona West NPP parliamentary primary: Cynthia Morrison loses seat

Cynthia Morrison, the sitting member for Agona West, has lost the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary, which took place on Saturday, April 13.

She received 152 votes, and Christopher Arthur received 240 to win the Parliamentary Candidate title.

Ben Yamoah received 221 votes, Yawson Otoo received 168, and Joseph Afrankwa received 155.
Following the election, Christopher Arthur supporters were observed celebrating.

 

The seat was won by Cynthia Morrison in the general elections of 2016. In the 2016 by-election for the Agona West constituency, two additional candidates, Evans Idan Coffie of the Convention People’s Party and Charles Obeng-Inkoom of the National Democratic Congress, also ran.

With 32,770 votes—or 58.03 percent of the total valid votes—out of the 56,878 cast, Cynthia emerged victorious in the election.
