CAF Confederation Cup

A brace from John Antwi inspired Ghana’s sole representative in the CAF Confederation cup, Dreams FC in their sensational 2-1 victory over Stade Malien in the leg 1 quarterfinals clash.

The first leg match in Mali saw Antwi’s heroics take centre stage as he scored twice to lead the Ghanaian team to victory away from home. Their first continental campaign has reached a major turning point with the away win, which highlights their resolve to create an impression before the second leg next week.

As a result of the outcome, Stade Malien will have a difficult task ahead of them in their attempt to close the gap and maintain their chances of moving on in the competition. Dreams FC bravely came back after falling behind early on to a Yoro Diaby free kick, with Antwi spearheading the attack.

Dreams FC’s hopes were revived in the 66th minute when Antwi scored a precise finish past N’Golo Traoré to spark his team’s comeback. Encouraged by the equaliser, the Ghanaians ramped up their attack, revealing Stade Malien’s shortcomings in defence.

The game’s pivotal moment came in the 74th minute when Antwi coolly finished a penalty kick that was given following Issa Yacoubou’s handball, completing his brace and giving Dreams FC a crucial lead.

With Fadi Sidiki Coulibaly’s red card, Stade Malien’s prospects were dealt a serious setback, as his team was reduced to ten men for the duration of play.

Before the second leg in Kumasi next week, the numerical disadvantage made Stade Malien’s problems worse. Dreams FC, riding high, prepares for the rematch with the goal of building on their lead and advancing to the semi-finals.
