Regarding the untimely death of a first-year student at the Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, the Ghana Education Service (GES) reports that it has opened an internal inquiry.

Additionally, it stated that it is actively working with law enforcement to carry out a separate investigation into the situation.

On Monday, February 5, 2024, the student, Stacey Okyere, who had been complaining of severe stomach pains, tragically passed away.

The school nurse allegedly accused her of repeatedly pretending to be ill, leading to her being denied medical attention.

She was reportedly rushed to the hospital, but tragically, when they arrived, she had already passed away.

The incident’s peculiar circumstances have drawn harsh criticism for the school’s administration, which the family claims was negligent.

Releasing a statement on Monday, GES expressed its condolences to the deceased’s family.
