At the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Friday, Nations FC defeated Accra Great Olympics 1-0, earning a spot atop the Ghana Premier League standings.

Razak Simpson’s goal in the 93rd minute gave the Premier League rookies, who needed a victory to move up to the top of the standings, the advantage at home.

Prince Badu, Abdul Karim, Razak Simpson, Kofi Mensah, Emmanuel Boahene, Justice Amate, and Prince Badu made up Coach Kasim Mingle’s formidable starting lineup.

Great Olympics’ tenacity prevented the debutants from taking advantage of their opportunities, as the first half ended goalless.

Nations FC won the game at Abrankese with a last-gasp free kick as it was about to tie. The game’s lone goal came from a delicious free kick that Razak Simpson took from the edge of the box and drove into the back of the net.

As the weekend approaches, Mingle’s team leads the table and is eager to see how Sunday’s match between FC Samartex and champion Medeama SC plays out.

With 43 points, Nations FC has taken the lead in the standings, one point clear of FC Samartex 1996 and seven points clear of third-place Aduana FC.
