An individual connected to the shooting of a military officer in Kasoa, in the Central Region, has been apprehended by the Ghana Police Service.

The military officer, who was believed to be in his late 30s, was shot and killed, but the two officers who were with him managed to escape unscathed.

The soldier at Millennium City in Kasoa was allegedly shot by the suspect, identified as Benlord Ababio, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m., according to a police statement based on preliminary investigations.

After suffering gunshot wounds, the victim was taken right away for emergency care to the Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa. Unfortunately, medical professionals later declared him dead despite his best efforts.

“Suspect Benlord Ababio is currently in custody assisting Police investigation.

“The leadership of the Police Service is in touch with the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces as investigation into the incident continues,” the police statement read.

The military man who passed away on April 30 was traveling to the location with two other officers in search of a long-term resolution to the issue after filing an initial complaint at the Millennium City District Police Command.

When the officers in a Toyota Rav 4 with registration number GR 3591-24 arrived at the location, they saw some people working there and told them to stop. They then planned to file a second complaint at the Millennium City District Police station, but Benlord Ababio, the Gyasehene of Millennium City, met them there and insisted they not go there.

He shot at the officers’ car from behind when they chose to go to the Divisional command because their efforts at the District command had not been successful, killing one of the officers, after rejecting the chief’s plea.
