Abdul Karim Zito

Abdul Karim Zito, the coach of Dreams FC, has revealed that his team’s CAF Confederation Cup semi-final exit was due to inexperience.

The second leg of the FA Cup semifinal match saw the Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek defeat the FA Cup winners 3-0 at home.

Their elimination from the competition was guaranteed by the loss, as they had drawn goalless in the first leg.

In his post-match remarks, Zito expressed his clarity about the reason behind their loss.

“It’s lack of experience. The boys only gave up after the third goal. I can do everything but if the players are not mentally stable there is nothing you can do. Antwi was doubtful but we forced him to play.”

The merciless cutting edge of Zamalek brought Dreams FC, Ghana’s lone CAF Confederation Cup representative, to an abrupt and terrifying end to their incredible journey.

Hamza Mathlouthi’s early goal put the Egyptian giants ahead 3-0 in Kumasi, securing their spot in the final with a decisive defeat of the competition’s surprise package, following a goalless first leg in Cairo.

With a late goal from Mustafa Shalaby and a magnificent volley from Samson Akinyoola, Zamalek cemented their standing as the dominant team in the continent.

Dreams can still feel proud of themselves despite this humiliating loss that will hurt for a while as they take on the second-tier competition for African club football for the first time.

“It’s not stage fright, if that was the case, it would have affected us in Cairo. My boys never thought we could get into this situation. In Cairo the atmosphere was bigger than today.” Zito concluded.
