Kumasi Asante Kotoko defeated Accra Hearts of Oak, their bitterest rivals, in the Super “2” match which took place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors defeated the Phobians in a match that saw five goals scored for the first time in three seasons.

Because the Accra Sports Stadium was unavailable for this season, the Phobians were playing their home games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Phobians dominated the away team from the first whistle, having a strong start to the game.

In the 38th minute, Linda Mtange gave Hearts the lead after connecting a cross from Salifu Ibrahim.

Isaac Oppong scored a goal for the Porcupines right before halftime to bring the Porcupine Warriors level.

In the 56th minute, Ugandan striker Steven Dese Mukawala took the lead for the Porcupine Warriors after a howler by Hearts goalkeeper Richmond Ayi.

Then, in the 75th minute, Mukawala completed his brace by scoring a third goal for Kotoko bringing his season total to five goals.

Later on in the second half, Hearts of Oak used Martin Karikari to pin Kotoko back.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko prevailed 3-2, their fourth league victory in as many games. With 22 points after the win, they now sit seventh in the league standings.

The Reds’ next match is on Boxing Day, December 24, 2023, at the WAFA Park in Sogakope against the Accra Great Olympics.

The same day, however, the Rainbow Club will also play Nations FC at the Dr. Kamme Kyei Sports Complex.
